Perry Musicians Selected for the OMEA District 7 Honor Band

Perry Middle School wishes to congratulate the eleven 7th and 8th grade students who participated in the Ohio Music Education Association District VII Junior High School Solo and Ensemble Competition.  These eleven students, spending many hours both in-school and outside of school working with Mrs. Singer, Mr. Hruska, and Mr. Miller on a vocal or instrumental solo, performed individually for an independent OMEA certified adjudicator and small audience on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Mentor Memorial Junior High School in Mentor, Ohio.  The primary purpose of the OMEA adjudicator was to provide one-on-one feedback to the student performer based on the OMEA performance rubric. In addition to a prepared solo,  student performers were also required to memorize lyrics to the song as well as memorize several instrumental scales.

The following students received a Superior Rating:  Caroline Beardslee, Brooklyn Chorba, Jovanni Hoza, Emma Jones, Claire McMurtrie, Bri McNamee, Giada Spring, and Brynn Trefzger.  The following students received an Excellent Rating:  Makayla Braden, Marylynn Kacsala, and Olivia Krayka.

The Perry Local Schools Music Department is very proud of the dedication and accomplishments made by these outstanding student performers and appreciate their willingness to” go above and beyond” when preparing for this contest.  The Perry Local Schools Music Department should also be commended for their resolve to the musical education of the students attending Perry Local Schools.

The OMEA is the third largest of the fifty-two federated state affiliates of The National Association for Music Education.  OMEA members are involved at all levels of music education, serving more than 1.8 million public school students and fifty-one colleges and universities.

First formed in 1924 in Fostoria, Ohio, the Ohio School Band Association was designed to “promote high school band contests” in Ohio, but in 1929, had expanded its emphasis to include all areas of music study.
