Internship Spotlight 3/12/26 - Alyssa
Alyssa has taken a unique approach to her internship experience this year by exploring two separate career areas, an opportunity she actively pursued and successfully built into her schedule. While most students focus on one internship placement at a time, Alyssa’s ambition, curiosity, and strong work ethic have allowed her to thrive in both.
Alyssa is currently working as one of our welders. She has already earned an impressive 12 industry-recognized credentials through NC3 Lincoln Electric, including certifications in Welding Safety, Welding Principles, and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Her dedication to mastering technical skills shows in her progress, precision, and determination to learn every aspect of the trade.
At the same time, Alyssa is pursuing her true passion, animal care, by shadowing Dr. Tom at the Madison Veterinary Hospital. There, she has been observing surgeries, assisting veterinary technicians with routine tasks, and learning firsthand what daily life in a veterinary practice looks like. The experience has introduced her to new dog breeds, common veterinary procedures, and the realities of working in an operating room.
Through this internship, Alyssa has confirmed her long-term goal: to become a veterinarian. She plans to begin her journey at Lakeland, taking courses that will eventually transfer to a four-year university as she works her way toward veterinary school. She’s fully aware that becoming a veterinarian requires years of study and unwavering commitment, but her internship has only strengthened her determination.
Alyssa has found her time at the Madison Veterinary Hospital so meaningful that she hopes to continue there during the second semester. Her enthusiasm, compassion, and drive to help animals have made her a valued part of their team and a standout example of what an internship can inspire.
