Gary Allen Ignat, Class of 1965

Gary Allen Ignat of Lansing, Michigan, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of August 23rd, after a long battle with cancer. Gary was born on December 30, 1946 in Painsville Ohio and grew up on a small farm, in Perry, Ohio. Gary was preceded in death by his Mother Margaret and Father Elmer, and is reunited with his brothers Denny and Gail. Gary graduated from Bowling Green State University, earning a Bachelor's degree in accounting. He continued his education at Western New England College, where he achieved a Masters of Business Administration. Gary was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in the early 1970's.

Gary is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cheryl Ignat (Sarata), daughter; Jessica (Jonathan) Lund, grandchildren; Evian, Ethan and Jonah, brother; Steven (Mary) Ignat, sisters; Reine (Mark) Smirz, Karen Harvey, sisters in-law; Katharine Ignat, Sandra (Bill) White, Susan Hineman, brother in-law; Rick Sarata, nieces; Taylor White, Samantha Sarata, Kelsey Ignat, Deven Smirz, Gina Smirz, Samantha Ignat, nephews; Keefe Ignat, Ross Hineman, Matt Hineman, Scott Sarata and Alex Ignat. Gary was soft spoken, thoughtful and selfless. He was a man of few words but when he spoke everyone listened. His interests included cars - specifically Corvette's. He also liked boating, working on projects around the house, and classic rock.

Gary was loved dearly and we will all miss him greatly!

Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at St. John's Student Parish, 327 M.A.C. Avenue, East Lansing, with Rev. Mark Inglot officiating. Interment will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 28, 5-8 p.m. Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing and one hour prior at the church. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
