Gail Thomas Ignat, Class of 1968
Gail Thomas Ignat, age 66 of Rapid River, Michigan, passed away April 19, 2016, at Huron Valley Sinai Hospital in Commerce Township, Michigan. Gail was born January 23, 1950 in Perry, the son of Elmer and Margaret (Lipovich) Ignat. He graduated from Perry High School in 1968. He continued his education at The Ohio State University where he received his Bachelor's degree in Architecture. He then enrolled at the University of Michigan where he completed his Master's degree in Business Administration. On July 13, 1990, Gail was united in marriage to the former Katharine Navarre, in Traverse City, Michigan, and together the couple made their home and began their family in Williamston, Michigan. Gail worked as a project manager and engineer for McNamee Porter and Seeley Engineering Firm for more than 25. In 1997, Gail and family relocated to Stonington where he established Stonington Associates Architectural Firm. Gail was a very talented architect who designed and built numerous homes throughout the country. In addition to his wife Katharine, he is survived by his son, Keefe Ignat of Los Angeles, California; daughter Kelsey (Dustin Getzloff) Ignat of Durham, North Carolina; brothers Gary (Chere) Ignat of Lansing, Michigan and Steven (Mary) Ignat of Tucson, Arizona; sisters Reine (Mark) Smirz of Gastonia, North Carolina and Karen (Scott) Hervey of North Carolina; as well as many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gail's parents, Elmer and Mararet, and his brother, Dennis, preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
