Harvey Students Collaborate With Perry Students On HPAC Project

The project they developed is the Candle Light Vigil. Harvey and Perry students will be holding the event on April 8, 2017 at 6:30pm in Downtown Painesville.

The vigil will feature keynote speakers and individuals who have been negatively impacted by Heroin. There will also be community resources set up for people to gather information and hand-outs and speak to representatives.

In preparation of the vigil, the students put together the Heroin Awareness Night during the Harvey vs. Perry basketball game to promote the vigil and begin raising awareness. They set the event up on their own, reached out to community assets, and organized the event.

Please see attached flyer and/or contact Andrew Dickson, Health Professions Affinity Community Specialist at 440-637-5919 adickson@neomed.edu for more information.

What is HPAC?
The students at Harvey High School are part of the Health Professions Affinity Community (HPAC). HPAC is a student-run organization in which we work off the IDEAS model. This is an acronym that we use to outline the objective of HPAC. It tends for:

I: Identify. The students identify a health issue/disparity in their community

D: Design. The students design a project to address the chosen health issue

E: Enact. The students put forth their project and make it happen

A: Assess. They have the chance to evaluate their project figuring out what went well and what didn't go so well.

S: Share. The students have the opportunity to share their project at an event called Scholar's Day in which all HPAC groups around Ohio come to the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) to present their projects in a scholarly way.
