TJ Rockwell Honored as Director of the Year

The Perry School District is pleased to announce that Athletic Director, TJ Rockwell, is the winner of the 2017 Northeast Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NEOIAAA) Athletic Director of the Year Award.

Each spring the executive committee of the NEOIAAA honors various athletic directors at the Spring Workshop. The candidate for Athletic Director of the Year is an active athletic administrator who is recognized in the community as an educational leader, and who maintains athletics as an integral part of the total educational program. He/she is one who administers an exemplary athletic program making full use of school and community resources and involving as many students as possible.

A 1992 graduate of Perry High School, Rockwell attended Grove City College earning a Bachelors of Science in Business Communications. He later went on to earn his Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from The University of Cincinnati. Rockwell has been involved in athletics for most of his life as a player, coach, and now as an Athletic Director for the last 15 years. He received his Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) designation from the National Federation of High School Associations (NFHS) in 2006.

During his five plus years as head of the Pirate Athletic Department, Perry teams have won twelve CVC Championships, three District Championships, and two Regional Championships along with a State Runner Up.

For a period of ten consecutive years, the athletic programs that TJ oversaw were the recipients of the prestigious Harold A. Meyer Award for Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity from the Ohio High School Athletic Association. In 2014, Rockwell received the NEOIAAA Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award, and in 2016, he received the OHSAA Meritorious Service Award.

Rockwell and his wife, Vanessa, live in Perry and have three children.
